If you run a business in Czechia and only promote it on Google and Instagram, you are probably missing some customers. The Czech Republic has its own search engine, Seznam, with its own advertising platform and directories. Local companies have used it for years; newcomers often have never heard of it.

Why Czechia has two search engines

Google is the most popular search engine in Czechia too. But a large share of Czechs still search through Seznam out of habit: it is their browser home page, email, news and maps (Mapy.com). For many consumer niches — home services, repairs, healthcare, home goods — it brings a noticeable share of customers.

Firmy.cz — Seznam’s free business directory

Firmy.cz is Seznam’s equivalent of Google Business Profile. Listings from Firmy.cz appear in Seznam search and on Mapy.com. A basic listing is free.

Fill in your name, address, phone, website, opening hours, description and categories. Firmy.cz has its own rules for descriptions — no hyphenated lists and no words in capitals — otherwise the system rejects the text.

Sklik and Google Ads

  • Google Ads — ads in Google Search, on YouTube and across Google’s partner network.
  • Sklik — ads in Seznam search and on Czech partner websites.

For local businesses we usually run Google Ads and Sklik together: the audiences overlap only partly, and clicks on Sklik can be cheaper.

Zboží.cz and Heureka — for online shops

These are Czech price comparison sites where shoppers choose a product and a shop. For e-shops they are a major source of orders, alongside Google Shopping. You connect your shop through a product feed — a file with your product list exported by your e-shop.

  1. Complete your Google Business Profile and your Firmy.cz listing — both free.
  2. Build a Czech-language website with prices and a clear enquiry form.
  3. Collect your first Google reviews.
  4. Run a small Google Ads and Sklik campaign for your most valuable searches.
  5. Work on SEO in parallel, so you get clients over time without paying for every click.
